Robert G. Melillo, age 78, of Ocala, Florida, formerly a fifty-eight year resident of Bloomfield, NJ, passed peacefully on Thursday August 17, 2017.
Bob was born in Newark, NJ. He grew up on Belmont Avenue in Bloomfield, NJ. One of his first jobs was as a Machinist at Valcor Engineering Corporation in Kenilworth, NJ.
On May 1, 1961 he was appointed as a Firefighter in the Bloomfield Fire Department. He rose up through the ranks for the next 23 years and was sworn in as Fire Chief on March 1, 1984. He retired from the department in August, 1988.
Bob loved life and loved to be around people. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. His sense of humor was second to none; he had a unique way of making everyone laugh at his endless stream of jokes.
Bob is survived by his wife Audrey, daughters Maryanne Sheridan of Reno, NV, Suzanne Weeks of Carrollton, TX and Carolina Lebar of Newport, TN; his sister Marilyn Fiumefreddo and Brother-in Law August Fiumefreddo of Bloomfield, NJ. He was additionally blessed with grandchildren, Anna and James, and a great-grandson, Gio; plus, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his mother Columbia 1965, his father Jerry 1979, his brothers Raymond 1976 and Victor 2001.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 8:30 am on Thursday, August 24, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, located at 6455 SW SR 200 Ocala, Florida 34476.
